Material Hierarchy information is required for the Material Completer Automation process in SAP.
All Material Hierarchy attributes must be completed prior to promoting a part from Preliminary to Review state.
All Material Hierarchy attributes must be completed before sending a part to SAP, including Advance Planning Part.
Development Parts only require Material Hierarchy settings if the user needs to advance send to SAP.
Parts connected to the Product Hierarchy inherit some or all Material Hierarchy settings from that connection and do not require Material Hierarchy settings. See below for more details.
Material Hierarchy is made up of three branching levels:
Material Line
Material Series
Material Family
Each attribute is represented by a dynamic drop-down list whose values depend on the value set in the preceding level of the hierarchy.
The values in each level of the hierarchy closely resemble the existing product hierarchy.
The Material Hierarchy for a part is displayed on the part Properties page.
The Material Hierarchy may be manually set or edited on the part Properties page by:
The part Owner.
Design Engineer in the part RDO.
Supplier Engineer in the part RDO.
The Material Hierarchy Manager.
Once a part is Released, the Material Hierarchy Manager is the only person who can change the Material Hierarchy of a part.
All future revisions of a Released part inherit the Material Hierarchy values, unless changed by the Material Hierarchy Manager.
At part creation the Material Hierarchy is set from the Default Material Hierarchy values of the part Originator.
If you create parts in ENOVIA, set Personal Default Material Hierarchy values to automatically set the Material Hierarchy for all parts you create.
The RDO project Default Material Hierarchy settings are used if the part creator does not have a Default Material Hierarchy.
The Default Material Hierarchy of the part creator takes precedence over RDO project Default Material Hierarchy values when both are set.
When neither personal nor project Default Material Hierarchy values are set at the time a part is created, the Material Hierarchy must be manually set.
Project owners should partially or completely set project Default Material Hierarchy values on the project Properties page:
Actions > Edit Material Hierarchy
Parts with the following Identities are connected to the Product Hierarchy, either with a Product Configuration or through direct connection, and receive Material Hierarchy settings from the Product Hierarchy:
These parts do not require a Material Hierarchy setting and override any previous Material Hierarchy settings when connected to the Product Hierarchy.
The Material Lines, Service Parts and Options, require the user to choose the appropriate Printer-related Series and Family that the Service Part or Option supports.
Once connected to the Product Hierarchy, the Material Hierarchy values in Material Lines other than Service Parts and Options may not be manually changed.
The Material Hierarchy of parts with the Returned Item Identity, even if in the Service Parts or Options Material Lines, may not be edited.
All hierarchy settings for these parts are inherited from the connected Original Part that was returned.
