Material Hierarchy is required for all Production parts to promote out of Preliminary state and/or to send any part to SAP, including Advance Planning parts.
Most parts connected to the Product Hierarchy do not require Material Hierarchy settings, as these are inherited from the Product Hierarchy.
The Material Lines, Service Parts and Options, require the user to choose the appropriate Printer-related Series and Family that the Service Part or Option supports.
The Material Hierarchy of parts with the Returned Item Identity, even if in the Service Parts or Options Material Lines, may not be edited.
See Material Hierarchy, Product Hierarchy for a list of part Identities that do not require Material Hierarchy settings.
Material Hierarchy is set at part creation if the part creator or project RDO of the part has Default Material Hierarchy values set up in ENOVIA.
Personal Default Material Hierarchy settings take precedence over project settings when both exist.
If neither personal nor project Default Material Hierarchy values are set, manual entry of the Material Hierarchy is required.
See Material Hierarchy for more information.
Personal or project Default Material Hierarchy settings may be partial:
Partial settings fill in the upper hierarchy levels automatically but require manual entry of the lower levels to be complete.
Personal or project Default Material Hierarchy settings may also be overridden:
Manual edits are required when a part is created that falls outside one's usual Material Hierarchy settings.
The following ENOVIA users may set or edit part Material Hierarchy:
The part Owner.
Design Engineer in the part RDO.
Supplier Engineer in the part RDO.
The Material Hierarchy Manager.
Once a part is Released, the Material Hierarchy Manager is the only person who can change the Material Hierarchy of a part.
To manually set or edit Material Hierarchy values for a part:
Access a part that requires Material Hierarchy values.
Parts initially display on the Properties page.
This page displays Material Line, Material Series, and Material Family; all fields are required, as described above.
Click on the Properties page tool bar.
Select Edit Material Hierarchy . . . on the menu.
The Edit Material Hierarchy window displays.
Click on the Material Line drop down list to select.
The Material Series drop down changes with the Material Line selection to display only valid Series in the selected Line.
If some or all fields in the Edit Material Hierarchy window are already filled in these selections may be changed, unless the part is connected to the Product Hierarchy either through a Product Configuration or through direct connection.
Service Parts and Options connected to the Product Hierarchy still require manual setting of the Material Series and Family to reflect the supported printers.
If the Edit Material Hierarchy window drop down lists do not respond to mouse clicks, the Material Hierarchy for the part is inherited from a Product Hierarchy connection and may not be edited, or the part was Released with Material Hierarchy values set, and only the Material Hierarchy Manager may edit.
Click on the Material Series drop down list to select.
The Material Lines, Service Parts and Options, require the user to choose the appropriate Printer-related Series and Family that the Service Part or Option supports.
The Material Family drop down changes with the Material Series selection to display only valid Families in the selected Series.
Click on the Material Family drop down list to select.
Material Hierarchy settings for this part are complete.
Click Done.
The part: Properties page refreshes, showing the new Material Line, Series, and Family.
