Engineering parts link to the Product Hierarchy to identify the parts in ways that can be marketed to customers -- such as laser printer, with a Marketing Name that may appear on the product package.
The Product Hierarchy is set up in Product MDM by marketing and sent to ENOVIA.
The Product Hierarchy groups products together by related characteristics through the following hierarchy levels:
Product Line
Product Series
Product Family
Product Model
View a graphical representation of the product hierarchy with two example Product Lines.
A Product Configuration is the bridge between the engineering BOM of a sellable part (Sellable item, FRU, or CRU) and the Product Hierarchy.
Product Configurations represent individual configurations -- for different geographies, feature sets, etc. -- of a Product Model.
A Product Configuration connects the EBOM of a sellable part to a Product Model, in a Product Family of a Product Series within a Product Line, in the marketing Product Hierarchy.
A Product Configuration for an option, supply, or service part, in addition to direct connection up through the product hierarchy, contains Supporting Relationships to the products that use the option, supply, or service part.
Non-sellable parts may also connect to the Product Hierarchy without the use of a Product Configuration in order to track important product information related to the part.
The following part Identities require direct connection to a Product Model without a Product Configuration:
Semi-Configured Item
Sales Phantom
Access the part Properties page, Actions> Set Product Model.
Orderable Reason connects other non sellable part Identities to the Product Hierarchy.
See Orderable Reason for more information.
To view the Product Hierarchy:
Select Project Management App > Product >Product Hierarchy.
Product Hierarchy displays on two tabs, showing whichever tab you last viewed:
Product Lines
Product Models
The Product Lines tab displays All Product Lines.
Click (if necessary) to expand All Product Lines and view the child Product Lines.
Click or to expand a Product Line and view the child Product Series.
Click or to expand a Product Series and view the child Product Families.
Click or to expand a Product Family and view the child Product Models.
To view all Lexmark Product Models in single list, click the Product Models tab, see below.
Click the name link of a Product Family to view the Properties page.
If the Regulated field is set to Yes, the Machine Type field is displayed, designating the Machine Type(s) that define the Product Family.
Click a Machine Type link to navigate to the associated Machine Type.
Click the name link of a Product Model to open on the Properties page in a new window.
The child Product Configurations are displayed in the upper left corner in the structure tree and on the Product Configurations page, accessed on the category tree.
If the Regulated field is set to Yes, the Machine Type Model field is displayed, with links to the Machine Type Model(s) that define the Product Model.
Click the name link of a Product Configuration to view the Properties page.
The connected part is displayed as a child of the Product Configuration in the in the upper left corner in the structure tree. Click this link to display the part in the same window.
The Child Part link on the Properties page opens the connected part in a new window.
The Bill of Materials link on the category tree displays the connected part BOM in the context of the Product Configuration.
If the Regulated field is set to Yes, the Machine Type Model field is displayed, with links to the Machine Type Model(s) that define the Product Configuration.
See Accessing Product Configurations to navigate directly to Product Configurations.
The Product Models tab displays all Product Models.
Due to the high number of Product Models in ENOVIA, this page may load slowly. To help it load faster, be sure to turn pagination ON, so less data is displayed at a time.
