Parts & BOMs

  Create a Part

In order to create a part and set the Design Responsibility to a project, you must have the Design Engineer or Supplier Engineer role in that project.

Remember, part reuse benefits you and the business, rather than creating new part objects.

To reuse a part, see Clone a Part.

To create a part:

  1. Select > Engineering > Part > Create Part . . . on the ENOVIA Top Bar;

or

In the Engineering BOM App > Engineering > My Engineering View > Parts and select > Create Part.

or

Access Part Workbench, View: Default and select > Create Part.

The Create Part window displays.

  1. Enter the part details:

Fields in red italics are required.

Field Name

Description

Type

Select the Part Type:

  • Begin typing the name of the desired part Type in the field and select from the auto-complete options that appear,

or

  • Click the Type field Browse/Choose button to open the Select Type window with a list of parent Types.

  • Click [+] to expand a parent Type and select a supported Type.

The part Type can be set to a top level, parent Type, but a more specific, supported Type is required to promote the part so choose a specific, supported Type during creation, if possible.

Part Name

Leave the Auto Name check box selected for the system to automatically generate a Part Name.

Uncheck Auto Name to create a significant part name based on a project-specific prefix.

  • Consult your Project Owner/Lead for significant part naming details in your project.

Creating a significant part name:

Prefix  - Usually related to a project or business area; primarily based on a three-character prefix, consisting of two digits and a letter such as 18D, 27S, 34H, etc.
Prefixes are created in ENOVIA by PLM Support per the Project Owner/Lead; only valid prefixes are allowed. Contact your Project Owner/Lead for details and/or contact the PLM Support Hotline to add a new prefix to ENOVIA; a description of the significance of the prefix is required.

Base Number  - The final four characters of a significant part name. Is often numeric, although some characters are used to represent different meanings as needed per project.
-  Available when Next Base Number is unchecked.

Next Base Number Select Next Base Number to have ENOVIA automatically assign the next available for the selected prefix range.
-  This option must be unchecked for the BaseNumber field to be editable.

Policy

Choose (see Part Policy for more information):

  • Development Part - Development Parts are under development and not yet ready for large scale manufacturing. Access defaults to Lexmark project users only.

  • Production Part - Production parts may be manufactured, changes require a higher level of scrutiny. Access defaults to all Lexmark users.

Use Numeric Revisions
