Tab Drawing Overview

A tab drawing is a set of similar parts that often differ by only a single dimension or attribute.

Parts in a tab drawing share a specification.
Parts in a tab drawing must be of the same part Type.
A part can be a member of only one tab drawing.

When similar parts (eg. screws, covers, shafts, etc.) differ only by a single dimension (eg. length, color, diameter, etc), a tab drawing can save time by defining all of the parts with a single CAD drawing and a table to describe how each differs.

The Category Tree for a tab drawing includes

a Parts link that displays the included parts
a Specifications link that displays specifications that apply to all parts in the tab drawing
a Reference Documents link that displays reference documents that apply to all parts in the tab drawing

NOTE: Users can upload CAD files to a Tab Drawing, CAD Spec, or CAD Derived object through the MCAD integration.

Tab Drawings have a Design Responsibility.

Only DEs and MEs in the project can modify the Tab Drawing.
Tab Drawing specifications inherit the Design Responsibility of the parent Tab Drawing.
