Alternate Units of Measure, dimensions, and weights for sellable parts are captured on the Product Configuration.
Non-sellable parts capture this information on the Part Dimensions link on the Part Category Tree.
Alternate Units of Measure supports the billing and shipping of a product sold individually, versus grouped together in a pallet, carton, box, bag, etc.
Alternate Dimensions and Weights are used to describe packaging sizes for calculating shipping costs.
This information helps eliminate shipping delays and re-routes and allows for more accurate shipping information and increased warehouse efficiency.
Product planners acquire this information from the Lexmark packaging team and other sources, such as acquisition partners.
Previously, this information was entered in the PIF.
Users with modify access to the Product Configuration (such as users with the Product Manager role) may add, edit, and remove alternate dimensions and copy them from another Product Configuration.
The Product Configuration Dimensions page captures the information for sellable parts to support packaged and palletized configurations:
Alternate Units of Measure (Alt UOM)
Dimensions (Length, Width, Height)
Weight (Gross Weight)
Product Dimensions may be added manually (see Work with Product Dimensions) in the Product Configuration Preliminary state or in any Product Configuration lifecycle state, using the Product Dimensions Import Template.
Product Configurations of physical parts require, to promote out of Preliminary state, at least one Dimensions entry, where the Alt UOM is the same as the Base UOM (1-to-1 quantity) and all fields contain non-zero data value.
This entry represents the dimensions and weight of an individual part.
Other entries may be added to represent additional multi-quantity configurations of the product.
Current exceptions include warranties, competitor products, software, etc.
These Product Configurations do not require a Dimensions entry to promote.
