The Machine Type Hierarchy groups Regulated Products together by key features:
A family of printers or powered options is designated with a four digit Machine Type number: "XXXX".
A specific model in a Machine Type is designated with a seven digit Machine Type Model number "XXXX-XXX".

The Machine Type Hierarchy is separate from the Product Hierarchy and links to it at certain levels in order to:
Identify Regulated Products for certification and regulatory approvals.
Manage options, service parts and supplies through Supporting Relationships.
Aggregate service parts and supplies and BMPs (Broken/Missing Parts) in ENOVIA to send to Siebel.
Regulated product configurations must connect to a Machine Type Model.
A Regulated product configuration may not be promoted to Active until connected to an MTM.
A Regulated product configuration must connect to an MTM that is connected to its parent Product Model.
A Regulated product configuration is defined by the Machine Type Hierarchy for regulatory and certification record keeping and to track Supporting Relationships.
Machine Types and Machine Type Models are created in ENOVIA and connected to the Product Hierarchy by Product Safety/MTM Manager.
To view the Machine Type Hierarchy:
