BOM Import Template

The BOM Import Template is an Excel spreadsheet that in one operation creates new parts and can use a combination of new and existing parts to create a multi-level EBOM.

The Design Engineer or Supplier Engineer role in the RDO of the context part for the import.

The BOM Import Template spreadsheet has columns for part attributes and BOM level information.

Once the data is entered into the template (see below), save the file under a new name and see BOM Import Procedure.

To import an EBOM, the current BOM Import Template is required.

To ensure you are working with the latest version, download the template from ENOVIA each time you import an EBOM.

As ENOVIA functionality evolves, the template is updated with fields for new attributes, etc.

Be sure to use the latest, fully functional version of the template, which is always available in ENOVIA.

To locate and download the latest version:

You may click this link, BOM Import Template, to open a new browser window and directly access the template.
In ENOVIA you may search for "BOM Import Template" in the Name field or Title field.
The various import templates used in ENOVIA are in a Collection in the Collaboration and Approvals App > My Tools > Import Templates. . . .

BOM Import Template Data

The column headers of the BOM Import Template are colored coded:

Red are Required attributes.
Yellow are Conditionally Required attributes.
Green are Optional attributes.

In the spreadsheet, hover the mouse pointer over a column header for a description of the attribute.

Field	Description
Level	All parts: Required Enter the level of the part in the EBOM
Part Name	All parts: Required New parts: Type 'New Part' in the cell to auto-generate the new part name. If a significant part name is required, please contact PLM Production Support. Design Responsibility and Access are set to that of the BOM parent part. Existing parts: Must precisely match an existing Part Name.
Rev	All parts: Required New parts: For Development parts must be a 1 or 2-digit alpha string (A-ZZ) or a 3 digit numeric string (001-999). For Production parts only 3 digit numeric strings are accepted. Existing parts: Must precisely match an existing Revision; Enter "Latest" to match the latest version of the part; Enter "Highest POR" to match the highest Plan of Record, (Complete or Release revision) of the part.
Part Type	New parts: Required Choose a part Type from the drop-down list (change may be prevented after sending to SAP). Existing parts: Ignored
Title	New parts: Required Existing parts: Ignored
Description	New parts: Optional Existing parts: Ignored
Identity	New parts: Required Choose a Part Identity from the drop-down list (change may be prevented after sending to SAP). Existing parts: Ignored
Security	New Parts: Optional Choose a Security setting from the drop-down list. If blank, the Security is inherited from the part to which the EBOM is imported. Existing Parts: Ignored
Partner Part Number	New parts: Optional Enter a partner part number Existing parts: Ignored
Qty	All parts: Required Positive, real numbers. If blank, defaults to 1.
U of M	New parts: Required Choose a Unit of Measure from the drop-down list (change may be prevented after sending to SAP). Existing parts: Ignored
F/N	All parts: Optional Find Number Enter positive, real numbers Auto-assigned if left blank
Ref Des	All parts: Optional Reference Designator Enter letter-number sequences to indicate the position of an electrical part on a printed circuit board: R1 (resistor position 1) C4 (capacitor position 4) J21 (connector position 21)
Component Location	All parts: Optional Enter where in the assembly this instance of the part is located.
Subsystem	All parts: Optional
Usage	All parts: Required Choose a Usage from the drop-down list.
Policy	New parts: Required Choose a Part Policy from the drop-down list. Existing parts: Ignored
Owner	New parts: Optional Enter the short name of an ENOVIA user. Existing parts: Ignored
