Converting a Development part to Production policy:
Changes the part lifecycle for more rigorous scrutiny;
Requires an EC to promote the Production part;
Allows the new Production part to be Released to the business.
When the development phase of a project is nearing manufacture, all parts must be converted to Production policy.
The Design Engineer or Supplier Engineer role in the part RDO is required to convert the part policy.
A Development part in the Complete state can be converted to a Production policy part directly or through an Engineering Change (EC).
When the part is converted directly using Go To Production (below), an EC is still required to Release the Production part.
See Attach Parts to EC and set Requested Change to for Release to use an EC to go to Production.
When a part is converted from Development to Production:
If the part has an alphabetical revision (bubble level), a new revision at ”001” in the Preliminary state is created.
If the part already has a numeric revision, the current revision is converted to a Preliminary state Production part.
Development part revisions can be changed from alphabetical (bubble levels) to production-style, numeric levels without converting to Production policy, by using the Custom Revision Level field when revising a part.
Using numeric revisions in Development parts eliminates the need to create a new part revision when converting to Production.
To create a Preliminary state revision of a Complete state Development part:
Access the Development part.
Click Lifecycle on the Part Category Tree.
Select >Go To Production on the page tool bar.
For Development parts with an alphabetical bubble level revision, a new, numeric revision is created.
The Revise Part to Production window displays with attributes that may be changed in the new revision.
Click Done to create the new, numeric revision with Production policy in Preliminary state.
For Development parts with a numeric revision level, the Properties page of the current revision, now with Production policy in Preliminary state, is displayed.
