An Engineering Change (EC) is a change control mechanism, used to control and facilitate changes and to communicate any of these changes within Lexmark and to Lexmark’s suppliers.
Changes may be required for many reasons:
To accommodate a change in customer requirements;
To remedy design problems;
To reduce the cost of a product;
To replace a part that has become obsolete.
An EC may include:
Development parts,
Production parts,
Other Part Specifications (Artwork, Instructions, Engineering Specifications, etc.).
An EC is required to:
Release a Development part into Production,
Promote a Production part out of Preliminary state,
Change a Release state Production part to the Field Use Only or Obsolete states.
Once attached to an EC, a part requires that you use the EC to promote it.
