  Lock / Unlock a File

Locking a file prevents anyone else from checking out the file or checking in an updated version of the file.

When a file is locked, it can not be checked out, so the Checkout icon changes to the Checkin icon.

Only the user who locked a file may check in, or unlock without updating, the locked file.

Checking out a file also locks it.

A locked file may be downloaded.

A file may be manually locked if you have a version of the file that you wish to check in, but you did not check out the file in the first place.

A file must be locked (either manually or through checking out) before checking in a new version.
