The part Type may be changed when a part is in Create (Development policy) or Preliminary (Production policy) state.
The Type may be changed by the part owner or a Design Engineer in the part RDO.
Change Type appears on the Actions menu of the part Properties page, if it is available for the current part and user.
To change the Type of a Release state part, create a new part revision first.
The new part revision, in Preliminary state, may be changed to a new Type.
The Change Type command can safely change the new revision of a Released part that was sent to SAP.
Once sent to SAP, the original part Type limits the choices for the new Type; the changed Type must be SAP-compatible with the original Type.
To change a part Type:
Access a part.
Part must be in the Create (Development policy) or Preliminary (Production policy) state.
For a Production part that has been Released (including Release parts sent to SAP), create a new revision to change Type.
Click the part Name link at the top of the Part Category Tree to display the Properties page.
Click on the page tool bar.
Select Change Type . . . .
The Change Type window displays.
Use the New Type browse/choose button to select a new Type for the part.
The list in the Select Types window is limited to those compatible with the current part Type in SAP for parts that have already been sent.
In some cases, the list may only display the current Type, indicating there are no compatible Types for changing this part.
Click Done.
The part Properties page refreshes, displaying the new Type.
